“It was very interesting, I really enjoyed learnin “It was very interesting, I really enjoyed learning about the music and how the orchestra works. I’m coming to the concert!”🥰

We were privileged and pleased to welcome 48 members of U3A Kempston (University of the Third Age) to a dedicated Open Rehearsal of Bedfordshire Symphony Orchestra last night at @bedfordgreenacre Bedford Greenacre Independent School.

As well as sitting in and very close to the action, they enjoyed listening to our conductor, @bjorn_bantock_conductor Bjorn Bantock as he rehearsed us - and noticed how things changed as we worked together.

They also spoke to our members in the break over tea, cake and biscuits!

Many also mentioned how impressed they were to see so many young musicians in the orchestra!

For us in the orchestra, it was great to hear their take on what for us is a normal part of music making and to see it through different eyes!

We’re looking forward to seeing them at our upcoming concert:

🗓️Saturday 23rd May,
⏰7.30-9.45pm
📍Bedford Corn Exchange

We always knew this was going to be a special concert with the incredible @carolynsampsonsop Carolyn Sampson joining us singing Mozart’s Exsultate jubilate, and three winners of our Young Composers’ Competition having their fabulous pieces performed by Bedford Sinfonia with Ian Smith conducting.

What we didn’t know was how much the audience were going to love the evening too!❤️❤️❤️

Here’s a quick look at some photos of the evening…

Full review to follow tomorrow!

Congratulations to Seth Garner, Ezra Bail and Elias Demetrius-Louisy!👏👏👏

“Did we do it justice?” and Seth said “Oh yes! And “Did we do it justice?” and Seth said “Oh yes! And much more!”🥰

Our third winner of the Young Composers’ Competition, Seth Garner, joined Bedford Sinfonia and Ian Smith for a very special rehearsal of his winning piece for orchestra called Cerulean.

Seth is at Ousedale School and wants to be a composer - we’d say that he already is!

The orchestra really enjoyed hearing about how the inspiration for the piece came from his Duke of Edinburgh expedition and the weather they encountered!

It’s a truly fabulous piece, “absolutely gorgeous”, was just one of many very complimentary comments from the musicians!

We were also delighted to welcome Seth’s Dad and his music teacher last night abd look forward to welcoming all of Seth’s guests on Saturday.

If you haven’t booked your tickets for the concert on Saturday 2nd May at St Paul’s Church, now is the moment! There are just a few tickets left…

“It made me smile!”😊 Ezra Bail, one of the three “It made me smile!”😊

Ezra Bail, one of the three winners of our Young Composer’s Competition, came to our Sinfonia rehearsal and heard his fabulous piece, St George and the Dragon, played live for the very first time!

And what a piece!

It has excitement and energy from the start and the storytelling is fabulous. The orchestra enjoyed hearing Ezra talk about his work and the challenge of lots of notes to play!

Ian Smith worked with Ezra to rehearse the piece and hearing it come to life was incredible!

We were so pleased to have Ezra’s teacher and parents with us too - it was a wonderful moment to share and it’s not over yet….

Come along to hear it yourself. All three winners will have their pieces performed on Saturday 2nd May at St Paul’s Church, Bedford as part of our Sinfonia concert.

It is so impressive to witness such talent from our young composers and a privilege to be part of their story, that’s only just beginning.

We have an incredible programme for you with @carolynsampsonsop Carolyn Sampson OBE, an internationally renowned soprano soloist joining us too, to sing Mozart’s Exsultate, jubilate.

For all further details, please see the flyer below and share widely.🥰
