Bedfordshire Symphony Orchestra (BSO)

The BSO is a group of 80-90 local players of all ages, including talented young musicians. Its programme is diverse and includes major symphonies and concertos. It rehearses in Bedford every Wednesday evening during term time.

John Beswick - Guest Conductor

John was music scholar at Bristol Cathedral School and Organ Scholar of Hertford College, Oxford, where he read music. Postgraduate studies followed, firstly as a repetiteur (Guildhall School of Music and Drama) and then as Conducting Scholar at the Royal College of Music, where he studied with Neil Thomson, George Hurst and Odaline de la Martinez. John made his opera conducting debut with Rigoletto whilst studying with Diego Masson at the 1996 Dartington International Summer School.

Leaders Caroline Waters ( Violinist )

Caroline Waters was born in Jersey and began violin lessons at the age of 7. With the help of a musical benefactor, Caroline continued her studies from the age of 14 in Manchester at Chetham’s School of Music. Continuing at the Royal Northern College of Music, she studied with Richard Deakin; throughout her time in Manchester she enjoyed opportunities to lead orchestras and perform chamber music.

Caroline has lived in Bedfordshire since 1989 when she began playing with the Bedford Orchestras under the baton of Michael Rose. She divides her time between performance work and teaching violin and viola. Caroline is happiest playing music with others and spent 27 years enjoying playing string quartets with the Kaznowski String Quartet. She performs regularly as a soloist and chamber musician, now leading The Element String Quartet,Trio and Duo.
