Anatoly Lyadov’s composition The Enchanted Lake is a marvel of mystical serenity, with sounds that are vivid and picturesque, a fairy-tale tone poem, and it will begin BSO’s concert on 15 February 2025. Benjamin Britten’s Violin Concerto, a most beautiful and emotionally complex work, will be played by one of the most promising international violin soloists of his generation, Charlie Lovell-Jones.  Sibelius’ unconscious emblem of national liberation, his Symphony No. 2, will conclude the concert.

Our series of Out and About Concerts from Bedford Our series of Out and About Concerts from Bedford Sinfonia are coming up in very soon… This is a longheld tradition where a group from Bedford Sinfonia, directed by Jan Kaznowski, perform two summer concerts on Sunday afternoons in July. We’re keen to showcase our own orchestral society members playing concertos and in these concerts you get to hear some of our finest musicians playing concertos with the orchestra. Tickets are available on the door, but arrive early to get your seat! More details on the posters.
A very special day and concert this evening for Be A very special day and concert this evening for Bedford Sinfonia under the baton of Ian Smith with Bedford Choral Society at Bedford Corn Exchange. Michael Rose, composer and conductor, who conducted Bedford Sinfonia for many years, came to this afternoon’s dress rehearsal to hear his piece being rehearsed for tonight’s concert. Alongside him was a young composer, Greg May, who also has his piece being performed tonight! It’s always a special moment when a composer is at a rehearsal but even more special when they are both so loved by the musicians and singers. A moment to treasure! If you’re reading this now, you just have time to get to the Corn Exchange for a 7.30pm start! Have a wonderful concert everyone!

We had our “Summer Social” last night with Members across both of our orchestras (BSO and Bedford Sinfonia) gathering to catch up with each other during what is a musically very busy period! Over the evening we had about 30 people popping in and the chat ranged from how excited we are about the BSO and Sinfonia programmes for next season (watch this space!) to holiday plans… If you are thinking of joining us in BSO as a musician in September, get in touch! You need to be approx. grade 8 standard or above, available on Wednesday evenings from 7.30-9.30pm in Bedford for rehearsals and to love playing in a friendly and ambitious orchestra! We have spaces for some strings and possibly a tuba and trombone. All other seats are taken at the moment! Email: chair@bedfordsymphony.com You’re invited!

Final rehearsals this week with our guest conducto Final rehearsals this week with our guest conductor, Bjorn Bantock! We had a great rehearsal last night and I think we all agreed that the highlight was a truly beautiful clarinet solo from Claire, who took our breath away in the Tchaikovsky! What a stunning moment! Many of you have already booked your tickets for this Saturday (24th May at the Corn Exchange, 7.30pm) - we are very excited to see you. Jakob, our soloist, arrives tomorrow from Copenhagen and the Corn Exchange is ready to welcome us - and we’re ready to welcome you. At the time of writing, there are still tickets available so if you haven’t got your tickets, you still just have time to book and join us for what is going to be a fabulous concert with great energy and passion!
