Tchaikovsky
The Year 1812 Festival Overture
Violin Concerto
Mussorgsky ‘Pictures from an Exhibition’
How else could it start, other than with
Tchaikovsky’s extraordinary 1812
Overture? Full of music from Russian folk
sources (and listen out for the French and
Russian national anthems), it concludes in a
blaze of glory, and the bells and cannon will be there! Then more Tchaikovsky. His ravishing Violin Concerto will be played by Jaroslaw Nadrzycki who thrilled us last season with his performance of the Brahms concerto. We look forward to his return to Bedford with eager anticipation.
Mussorgsky’s ‘Pictures from an Exhibition’ takes us on a promenade to view paintings by his artist friend Victor Hartman. He creates some wonderful sound pictures – come and find out how he portrays the Tuileries Gardens, the chicks dancing in their shells, the witch Baba Yaga, and others, both grotesque and noble.
